Baltic Chemical Complex will use American technology in polymer production
Moscow, Neftegaz.RU. RusGazDobycha’ Subsidiary, Baltic Chemical Complex (BHC) entered into licensing agreements with the American company C Lummus Technology (McDermott’ Subsidiary) as part of the project of a gas chemical complex in Ust-Luga.
The agreement provides for the acquisition by BHC of licensing rights for ethylene production technology with a total volume of (1 and 2 stages) up to 3 million tons per year (licensed capacity of 2.8 million tons). Thanks to these installations, raw materials for the production of polyethylene at the gas chemical complex will be provided.
A licensing agreement was signed with Univation Technologies, LLC for the supply of polyethylene production technology. BHC will receive a license for the production technology of UNIPOL PE products, as well as the supply of catalysts under a separate agreement on the supply of patented standard and advanced catalyst systems for the production of high density polyethylene (HDPE), linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) and metallocene LLDPE. It is planned that the production volume will be up to 3 million tons / year using 6 reactor units, on which UNIPOL PE technology will be applied, with a capacity of 500 thousand tons / year each.
Recall that Gazprom and RusGazDobycha implement a project of an integrated complex for processing and liquefying natural gas in the vicinity of the seaport of Ust-Luga in the Leningrad region. The company will use ethane-containing natural gas from Gazprom fields in the Nadym-Pur-Taz region as a raw material. Gas will be delivered through dedicated gas pipelines. On the part of RusGazDobycha, the construction of a gas-chemical enterprise technologically connected with the complex is expected, which will process the ethane obtained from the complex and produce up to 3 million tons of various grades of polyethylene. The project is implemented in 2 stages. The commissioning of the first stage is scheduled for the end of 2023-beginning of 2024, the second - at the end of 2024-beginning of 2025. Russia will be able to increase exports of LNG, as well as LPG by 30-40% thanks to this project.
