Leviathan partners examine construction of floating LNG export terminal off Israel
The partners in Leviathan, which includes US-based producer Noble Energy and Israel's Delek Drilling, are studying the feasibility of a 2.4 million-5 million mt/year export floating LNG terminal in Israel, Delek Drilling said on Tuesday.
"Liquefying the natural gas from Leviathan will enable us to transport it worldwide, thus reaching new export markets, mainly in Europe and in Asia," said Delek Drilling CEO Yossi Abu.
The partners signed agreements with shipping companies Golar LNG and Exmar to receive engineering plans, it said.
The aim is to enter into a binding long-term charter agreement with one of the companies, which in turn will finance, build, operate and maintain the facility to be located in the Exclusive Economic Zone of Israel.
Golar will carry out a generic Front End Engineering Design for construction and will examine the planning compatibility, while Exmar will carry out more detailed engineering planning.
Noble and Delek are partners in the development of both the producing Tamar field and the giant Leviathan field, which is due to start production by the end of 2019.
