Sovcomflot localizes production of LNG tankers in Russia
Moscow, Neftegaz.RU. Sovkomflot General Director S. Frank participated in the expert discussion of the Gaidar Forum on the topic: “Gas fuel: the present and the future of Russia”.
In his report, S. Frank shared his experience gained by Sovkomflot since 2015 in the development and implementation of the technology for the use of gas-engine fuel in maritime transport.
Sovkomflot's “green series” is relevant not only in the waters of the Baltic and North Seas, where the most stringent restrictions on emissions into the atmosphere operate, but also in a fragile Arctic ecosystem; The use of LNG as the main fuel has good prospects in the light of the decision of the country's leadership to increase traffic on the Northern Sea Route ( NSR ) to 80 million tons / year; Production of "green" tankers is already localized in Russia. In September 2018, Sovcomflot signed a package of agreements with Rosneft, SK Zvezda and the VEB group on the construction of a series of large-capacity oil tankers of the new generation, Aframax. At the end of December 2018,Sovcomflot posted on SC Zvezda order for construction of 3 the new generation of the product carrier MR, which will use liquefied natural gas as the primary fuel.
Sovcomflot already owns 2 newest LNG oil tankers,“ Lomonosovsky Prospect ” , commissioned in October 2018, and “rospect Gagarin”, commissioned in July 2018.
The project was developed with the participation of specialists of the engineering center of Sovcomflot, Hyundai Heavy Industries and SK Star.
Through the use of LNG, emissions are reduced: sulfur oxides (SO x) and low dispersed particles by 100%; nitrogen oxides (NO x) by 76%; carbon dioxide (CO 2) by 27%.
